Dental Erosion

Dental erosion is the loss of tooth enamel not related to bacteria.

Paediatric dentists are seeing more children with dental erosion caused by frequent intake of acidic foods and drinks.  Drinks such as colas and sports drinks are high in acid content.  If consumed too often and over extended periods of time or sipped, they can cause severe loss of enamel from teeth.  These teeth can become sensitive.  Dental erosion can also occur from stomach acid when children have gastric reflux.

Further advice can be given by your Paediatric Dentist.
